The tracking notch filter is one you set up manually yourself.  This might
go on an interfering tone and will work great even if you are running CW.
 Thereafter, until you delete it,  even as you tune, it will adapt its
frequency and Q to keep the same BW.

The automatic notch filter FINDS the tones and suppresses them.  For
example, even the signal you are listening to on CW!  It will also be bad
for some digital signals where they are weaker than the interference signal.
 By using the notch,  you can eliminate the interfering tone and it will not
capture the AGC.  You may have to stack them to get the interfering signal
to the noise floor but four are provided (4x) to get a lot of suppression.

The DSP behind the notch filter is pretty straightforward and the code was
easy to write. All of the magic in this filter to me is in the brilliant
work done in the user interface and control code.  I am sure there are
things there that can facilitate easier use but the two pieces,  math and
UI,  have done something we are quite proud of.
