I have a Flex 5000 and enjoy the Panafall display and the ease of
integrating the SDR with all the other software and tools on my
computer. But, I imagine, with the exciting advances of the Flex 6000
series I'll be upgrading soon.
While envisioning all the possibilities of the new architecture, it was
a little eery when I ran across a passage in an old science fiction
paperback. I just had to share it with the Flex community.
_An excerpt from "The Avatar" pg.192 __by Poul Anderson, first published
in 1978__:_
"The HUMAN BRAIN, and hence the entire nervous system, can be integrated
with a computer of the proper design," the speaker was droning, "We have
long since progressed beyond the 'wires in the head' stage.
Electromagnetic induction suffices to make a linkage." ... "For
example, a spectrum is best considered - rationally appreciated - when
the operator sees it and, simultaneously, knows the exact wavelength and
intensity of every line. Through the appropriate hardware and software,
this can now be done. Subjectively, it is like sensing the data
directly, as if the nervous system had grown complete new input organs
of unprecedented power and sensitivity." ...
Guess one of the things for Flex to work on in the future is an Ethernet
to Brain interface. ;-)
