Hi Larry! I am a weak signal VHF-UHF operator I am running Down East Microwave transverters on all bands 144 thru 2304 on my 5000 and 1500. Their current version transverters are very good, HMET receiver front end. I don't use a preamp and the receive noise level floor goes up when I connect the antenna. You might need a pre-amp for EME, but probably not for terrestrial communications.

I'm interested in doing weak signal 2m SSB with the Flex. There is a huge price different between these two units - I understand that with the Kuhne I would probably not need a preamp. Thanks -- 73's N7BCP _______________________________________________ Flexedge mailing list [email protected] http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexedge_flex-radio.biz This is the FlexRadio Systems e-mail Reflector called FlexEdge.
