Tim has it exactly right. While I understand Bret's point I think that if the 6xxx series is touted as an easily remotable platform based on ethernet connectivity and it already has two USB ports built in to it - it would just make perfect sense to also have those USB ports available over the LAN/WAN for use at the thin client platform.
I don't think that is making it over complicated...just a step further enhancing one of the radio's main features. A one-box radio that will let you operate the rig and two peripherals remotely....rather than just the radio. Anyway...it was just a thought and suggestion....probably not doable based on the hardware anyway.....or is it? :) 73 Greg On 7/26/12, Bret Mills <[email protected]> wrote: > What's the point, > > Just have the Ethernet>USB server connected to the same Ethernet Switch as > the Flex6000 and not complicate the radio any more then it needs to be with > Overhead. > > I use SILEX boxes all the time to reprogram my Kenwood TKR series of > Commercial radio's in an emergency situation all the time, These box's have > 2 USB Ports on them for Printer, Serial device or what ever else you can > think of that is USB and gives you 2 ports just as if they were at your > local desktop.
