Bob's comment about 'mouse control'.
I've morphed my contesting style.
I'm no longer a 'competitive contester'. Health, old age. I was never
going to 'win' or score in top 50. But I could put up some good 'rates'.
Now using N1MM, which is a mouse/keyboard program, I find I really don't
adjust/modify the settings of the flex very often at all.
I do have a K6TU 'knob' which I use to fine tune the receive vfo for
those slightly off frequency replies in cw and rtty.
I do that with the left hand, and log RTTY with the mouse via N1MM in
my right.
And of course copy cw by ear and log by keyboard. (I am a good typist)
Pretty much, I set up the Flex for the type of contest, and then outside
of band changes (which is doable via N1MM) I really don't mouse to the
PSDR screen that often.
I use both vfo's when digital contesting. Call CQ on a 'locked' vfob
and use the KT6 knob (or mouse scroll wheel) to fine tune an off
frequency reply on vfoa.
I got into that habit years ago with conventional rigs where vfo A was
BIGGER and smoother than the vfo B knob.
It really doesn't matter which Flex VFO is the locked cq vfo, just habit
from the old days.
So Bob's comment about 'mouse'...at least in my operating, contest or
dxing, it's a non issue. Most of the time I don't even realize I'm
adjusting the radio via the mouse/n1mm controls.
Wonder what you other contesters do?
