Note that changing the input level settings will require you to run the
Level Calibration routine in order to show correct signal levels.

On those connections where you are using an external preamp, specify
the ONE INPUT
where the microphone is connected at +4 dBu. For radio inputs, and
Med Preamp
(the right mode for 20 meters and down), -10dBv is right for the
radio inputs to the
D44 for most use. On contest weekends, if you believe you are getting
some overload
on the A/D, then change them to + 4dBu since the noise floor will be
raised by the
hundreds of stations, phase noise, splatter, etc. anyway.

Bob,
Are you describing the situation with or without an external microphone
preamp. Reason I ask is that I am using a Behringer mixer with built-in
preamp that easily delivers +4dBu and I therefore have In3/4 set to
+4dBu.

I think the optimal receiver settings for the unmodified SDR-1000 in use
with the
D44 are
1) Preamp set to Medium
2) Bring up the Delta 44 M-Audio Control Panel
Click on the Hardware tab.
Set I #1 through #In4 to -10dBv.
3) Recalibrate your receiver, image and level settings
If you are on a high band or are doing weak signal work, set preamp to
High.
