As Bob noted, we got the first kludge of the
Software Defined Xponder on
the air Tuesday afternoon. Bob has posted a composite collection of his
photos plus mine at http://n4hy.smugmug.com/gallery/736793
(In case you want to ascribe blame, his photos show they are from a
Canon Rebel, while mine are from a Canon 20D). The audio from the first 3-way "QSO" can be heard at ftp://ftp.cnssys.com/pub/amsat/Eagle_SDT_1st_Contact.mp3 ;this audio was recorded off the air in Rick's shack on the 2nd floor of his house, with the hardware running in the basement (i.e. DX = 50 feet or so). The audio has an echo sound because the mike was hearing the local "uplink" audio in the room as well as the "downlink" coming from the radio. The major problem so far is that Rick keeps using SDT for "Software Defined Transponder" while I prefer to use SDX (X=Xponder) ;-) 73, Tom |
