It seems as the functionality of the SDR-1000 gets more mature, the front panel space is getting more scarce. This is a problem that will have to be addressed eventually. Maybe the answer is as simple as just making the front panel larger! Maybe it needs to be more mode specific, such as a setup box saying voice, digital, cw .. and then the screen presentation being tailored to those options that affect those modes, such as filter selections!

I am a phone guy and honestly I see the front panel quite differently than a CW guy. For instance, out of 10 bandwidth filters I only find three useable, not counting the variable positions which are necessary to make the SDR remotely flexible enough for us phone guys. The bandwidth slider is nearly useless because it appears to be a log scale and at the wider (phone) bandwidths it is far too touchy to be of any practical use. PowerSDR could use some attention in this area.

I know that a lot of the SDR-1000's are being used on CW but John, your suggestions seems to favor that mode as does the present Power SDR screen presentation. I would really not like to see it changed in such a manner.

Understood.

I wonder what the one to one relationship is between the mic and
threshold setting. Maybe the threshold could be a function of changes
in the mic value.

In the mean time, how about this. To make it easier to set the
threshold the user simply keys the mike reads the tx ambient noise
level on the display of his choice and enters that value (+ a desired margin) into the threshold box. Currently the threshold is a relative
value and I'm suggesting an absolute threshold.

On another tangent. Since front panel space has become so expensive,
how about grouping some functions to one button. For instance, put the
SSB functions under a single button. Press it once, get LSB again for
USB. Same for AM,DSB,SAM with one button and another for CW ...

I'd also like to see the Filter- Shift/Width sliders do double duty as
Filter- Lower/Upper Sliders. Shift/Width is perfect for CW, but
Lower/Upper makes more sense for voice modes especially when QRM moves
in from one direction. There are no doubt other modes where one of these
makes more sense than the other. Comments?

I'm getting better at using the 'Wave' for tx. I'm thinking of adding
some features to the Wave window.

Such as:
Time position control
Markers for Start and Stop to play only a section of the file
Tx level control
Mox button
Mon checkbox, so that you can here the TX audio on transmit

Currently you have to set a lot of stuff to send a wave file and then reset
it to use the mic.

Just my $0.02.
