Well,

My problem with DirectX is only in the debug mode. I installed fresh
software for P8, tested both runtime and executable, and then ran
fftw_wisdom on both. The runtime codes is working just fine in both cases.
I notice a definite decrease in CPU usage after the console has been running
for a few minutes. It is initally higher, in the 30-40% range, and then
drops into the 3-6% range. RX sounds very good!

Sure wish I had thought of running the executable yesterday, might have
saved Eric and I a lot of time but when you get focused on a problem you
sometimes can't see the forest for the trees.

I suspect my problem is with my copy of the DirectX SDK. I "updated" it on
the MS site after I started having problems but the updates from my original
version to the current version are documentation only (so I've been told).
Unfortunately, there is no way to uninstall DirectX and start over again
short of a hd format and reinstalling the OS. The good news is that I can
run in debug in the GDI+ mode so I'm not dead in the water as far as CAT
development is concerned.

Hope everyone finds a solution as easily as I did :>)

All,

I was working with Eric for about 8 hours yesterday trying to make P8 work
on my machine before he released the Beta. We never could make it work in
DirectX. After reading Bob's post on running fftw_wisdom.exe I gave it a
try. My system now runs in DirectX without error, I can't make it fail.

I am running a Dell Dimension 8400, 3.4 gHz Pentium, hyperthreading, 1 gB
RAM, D44, and ATI X300SE graphics.

Go figure!

Ahti:

Some got a Christmas present and some got coal in their stockings! You
must have been a good boy this year!

Anyway, it is a start. Eric has a long way to go on the directX and I
can tell you from watching his pain that it is a real bear. Doing the
waterfall and histogram in directX has been accompanied by several
abortive attempts. It is just very hard in dealing with these Microsoft
hidden toys.

The FFTW3 is a real win BUT EVERYONE, please run fftw_wisdom. It is
more important with FFTW3 and than with FFTW2. Run it in the directory
where you found it upon installation. It will deposit a file
(fftw_wisdom) in the directory. This file should be in the same
directory as the .dll files and the database. fftw_wisdom should be run
under the same conditions PowerSDR will be running under. If you have
email, browsers, etc. open, the run fftw_wisdom under the same conditions.

73's and thanks for the good news. The ATI Radeon's seem to be mostly
solid with this directX implementation.
