A datapoint here - I did have one motherboard (not an ASUS) that would insist on disabling the on board sound hardware if a PCI sound card was installed -- quite annoying! That motherboard is no longer among the living here (http://www.ewjt.com/pod/20040626/index.html ), its replacement happily allows a PCI soundcard to be installed without disabling the on board sound.

Cheers,

I do not believe this can possibly be correct and you got a misinformed
by an ASUS support person. I have an ASUS MB, and while they are all
different, they are not that different. I have the P4C800E Deluxe. It
has the soundmax on it.

In this computer I have Delta 44, Lynx L22, Soundmax Mobo soundcard,
and I have also run this all at the same time with both a Audigy 2 NX
and a Extigy (both USB) or with the M-Audiophile USB. Almost surely
the problem is "whose on first and what's on second". You have to have
the correct soundcard listed as the system sound card (control panel,
sounds/sound devices) for many of these sound card programs to work.
You have made the correct decision in using the VAC in my estimation.

W0VB and I both use WSJT with VAC so it does work.

Good luck.
