Fine Tim,

Now the development team needs to tell us which settings you need to leave in the default setting, which they haven't, as far as I know, done yet.

Attention all Flexers!

It is with great excitement that I can announce that through the
dedication and hard work from Ray, K9DUR we now have an easy to use and
flexible tool for migrating individual tables from one PowerSDR.mdb to
another. You may ask "why do I need this since PowerSDR has a database
import utility"? That is a good question. When you import an existing
database, you can potentially over write new "default" database settings
that the development team may have set specifically to protect or
optimize the SDR hardware. This could leave your hardware vulnerable.
So it may be in your advantage to allow PowerSDR create a new DB from
scratch from time to time.

If you allow PowerSDR to create a new default database, all of your
personal settings and configurations get set to default too. If you
have made significant additions to the BandText table, or setup many
different transmit profiles, you either have to use MS Access to move
tables from an existing PowerSDR database to the new one or (heaven
forbid!) re-enter the data in all by hand. What was needed was a quick
and easy way to migrate table data from one Access database to another
without have to pay homage to Mr. Bill and buck up for a copy of Access.

Ray has come to the rescue and created a freeware standalone utility to
do just that. It is very intuitive and easy to use. After starting the
PowerSDR Data Import Utility, you select your source and target
databases. The application compares the database tables and table
structure of the source with the target database and if compatible, you
can then select the table(s) from the source DB and replace the target
table with it. Slick, isn't it!

Now you can let PowerSDR create a new default DB to get the updated
recommended default program settings and then move table specific
information to the newly created database that you have "personalized".
For example, I make a habit of letting PowerSDR create a new default
database for every new major release. Then I import data that I have
modified over the months that is specific to my operating position, such
as the BandText, BandStack, TxProfile, CWX, EQform, UCB, XVTR and State
tables from my previous PowerSDR database to the newly created one. Now
I have a brand spanking new database with most of my old configuration
settings. With the PowerSDR Data Import Utility, I can do this task
much easier and quicker than doing database surgery with Access.

Now, I still have to run through the soundcard setup, calibration
routines and set some DSP options, but that doesn't take any time at all
and it is always a good idea to run the calibration routines after every
new program update to keep your radio operating in tip top condition.

So, you are now asking yourselves, "Where can I get this new tool"? It
has been uploaded to the Flex Radio web site
(http://www.flex-radio.com/downloads.htm) for fast and easy downloads.
Look for it at the bottom of the page. Alternately, you can go to Ray's
web site (http://www.qsl.net/k9dur/) and download it from there. (Hint:
the Flex Radio download is much faster than the one from qsl.net). This
is the first released version of the software and if you have any
recommendations or want to report any bugs, you can contact Ray via
e-mail (his address is on his web site).

Thanks a million, Ray!

Enjoy!
