Hi John, Which version of ubuntu are you installing?
The most recent version 6.06 is due for final release this Thursday. You might want to try installing the current 6.06 release candidate. It is available at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ The release candidate is stable, has an optimized and updated installer and can be easily upgraded when the final release appears. I am not sure what the configuration of your system is but the issue of hanging during installation may have more to do with SATA drives than the dual CPU's. There is a substantial amount of help available on the ubuntu.org website. There are a number of experienced Linux users that frequent the FlexRadio Reflector so posting here will probably get you a fairly quick response. If you have questions about Software Defined Radio and Linux there is also a Yahoo Group (dttsp-linux) that is oriented in that direction.
