Tim, Thanks for trying to verify my findings. I am going to make a recording with fan off and on and send it to Flex-Radio´s trouble shooters for evaluation.

With Paul's W1GHZ thermostatically controlled fan controller installed, I do not see or hear any noise that can be attributed to the fan. -Tim --- Tim Ellison ( [EMAIL PROTECTED] ) Integrated Technical Services ( http://www.itsco.com ) -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Tim Ellison Sent: Thursday, May 25, 2006 1:21 PM To: Willi Reppel; Bill Nagle; FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz Subject: Re: [Flexradio] noisy fan Oh. I see. I will check to see if the fan controller I am using provides any noise electronic filtering -Tim --- Integrated Technical Services "Whoa-oh, Smokestack Lightning, shining just like gold. It remains to do something about the electrical noise of the fan. I see 20 dBm of noise spred out over the lower sideband in the 15 m band which disappears when disconnecting the fan. While the purist argue about 1/f noise and freezing of the SDR-1000 to 0 K to reduce thermic noise, I am looking for a engi-neering change order (ECO) to get rid of the more substantial electric fan noise. There is a little too much back pressure generated between the fan and the vents. You can trace a nice octagon around the air intake holes by drawing tangents on the existing holes. 5 minutes with a Dremel tool and a cutting wheel and you are in business. -Tim --- Integrated Technical Services "Whoa-oh, Smokestack Lightning, shining just like gold. The OM reported a sub-stantial noise reduction and mentioned that the small holes in the cabinet together with the adjacent fanwheel create a whining sound like a siren .
