If your considering making a mod to lower the SDR's fan noise, I found this
site http://www.cpemma.co.uk/index.html covered about all the bases on the
subject of "Fan Noise Solutions".

"You'll see the (fan's) throat has a curved "wasp-waist" profile, known as a
venturi, which optimizes air flow. Extending the venturi profile through the
panel wall, blending it in by chamfering the cut-out edge, reduces turbulence,
noise and flow losses due to drag and obstruction at the cut-out." (from:
http://www.cpemma.co.uk/mount.html)

Doing the above mod and mounting the fan in new rubber grommets will reduce the
noise.
