Eric would not let me off the hook. One question after another led to the realization that we had band aids all over the code to work around a problem we had fixed quite a while ago. Eric removed two of the five unnecessary band aids and I removed three and voila, the latency has been nearly minimized. The worst case scenario, Audio 2048, Sample Rate 48000 has a theoretical minimum latency of 43ms. This is not realistic but we did get it down to about 55ms. We had just not tested to see if the bandaids were still required. Frank's keyer logic is back to its pristine perfection. The only difference now in the keyer between Linux and Windows is the threads running on windows and the firing of the multimedia timer instead of a single process on Linux with very clean main code.
At 96000 samples per second with 512 sample Audio buffers the latency is under 10ms. I found that in the last week while this was going on, I was really able to send reliable 40 wpm using the internal keyer that was completely comfortable to send. Eric told me he is trying to get 1.6.2 out by Tuesday or Wednesday. SVN 534 was just uploaded fixing BUG ID 345 (VAC stereo enable).
