Maybe I should have been more specific, the install disk don't support phoney 
raid controllers very well, yes you can add drivers after the fact but if 
that is the only drive you have you are in trouble and are going to wreck the 
array. The process of installing the software destroys the RAID array you 
already have in place and all the data is gone. That is not a sign of good 
support.

The alternative is to have a second system where you create a kernel with the 
proper drivers and modify the install disk to create a new install disk that 
understands the array that is already there. Not a very good solution that 
the average Joe can deal with, again that is poor RAID support.

But that is not compatible with anything other than Linux, so if you have 
Windows, you again wrecked the Array and lost your data. In my book that is 
not very good support of RAID controllers.
