If it's all just between friends and no one is trying for any awards, then
I heartily agree with you.

Trouble is, in general, you never know what the guy on the _other end_
might be interested in.  He might want or need a given QSO to be QSLed for
some darn award or other.  You want to help him/her or not?

I don't want to turn this into an even longer hijack than it already is,
but suffice to say that "what the League wants" and what people _think_
the League wants are important items on at least QSLable contacts.  Not
just for ARRL awards, either.  Like it or hate it, ARRL does have
influence.

It isn't really the League as such that matters here anyway.  It's what
your fellow hams need or think they need that drives some simple courtesy.

But, there's lots of folklore on all this.  People tend to "round up" on
all this stuff and infer more than is needful.  So, while some caution is
in order, I think we also need to be careful not to add to the folklore
that surrounds the world of awards.
