Well, mine toggles between two mechanical positions also. But read
the manual: On this radio, the ON/OFF operation is more complicated.
The switch on the case DOES NOT power off the radio. I (used to) use
one big station 13.8V supply and leave it constantly ON. Now I have
to add another separate switched supply for the SDR-1000.

With my new SDR1k-dedicated power supply, I _guess_ the case power
switch can just be left ON all the time and all switching done on the
mains to the external 13.8V power supply. Is it safe to do this, Flex?

Excerpts from the current manual:

Power-Up Procedure
The SDR-1000 is unique in that the software does not have a way to
cut the 13.8V power to the hardware
unit. For this reason, we recommend the following procedure to ensure
that the radio starts in a stable, safe
state on Power Up:
<snip>

Power-Down Procedure
The power-down sequence is almost the reverse of the power-up procedure.
<snip>
Note: It is necessary to cut the power at the supply in order to
completely power
down the radio and ensure the amplifier circuitry is not in a bias state.
