Mike

What is still wondering me the most is that when the SWR is close to 1, the
transmitter impedance

should not have any influence on the SWR. All the energy coming from the
transmitter is absorbed

in the antenna system, nothing comes back. The transmitter sees 50 ohm.

  50 ohm  ->-- coax-----SWRmeter---------coax-----------antenna(or dummy), all
50 ohm's

If the transmitter does not like this 50 ohms does not matter for the SWR,
might however cook

the transmitter. The transmitter of the SDR is build for a 50 ohm load.....

Keep in mind that the output impedance of a transmitter is almost never 50 ohm,
but the

transmitter is build to operate efficiently with a 50 ohm load.

Good luck experimenting

Thanks for all the replies to my original problem with the differing swr
readings between the sdr and other rigs. Of course like so many other things
about this sdr, it is not consistent. Tonight when I tried again, the swr on
the same antenna with the sdr is 1/1. Power level is 10 watts. Set up is SDR
1000 without internal tuner. Dell 3.4 Dual core, 1 Gig, etc.

One time the SDR will read high swr , another time same antenna etc. it will
give high swr. No change at least physically. I have changed bnc connectors,
coax, etc, etc, trouble shooting. I have become very accustomed to
troubleshooting since acquiring the SDR. I love the receiver, but still after
almost two years, I am very reluctant to transmit with it. I have virtually no
level of confidence in the transmit performance. It seems very unpredictible
and therefore unreliable. I have almost 50 years of experience working with
and in numerous amateur radios, but this one is about to drive me nutso. As
comparison rigs I have Yaesus, Icoms, Drakes, etc. They all do their thing
nicely without the inconsistencies that I have had with the SDR. Like golf, I
seem to be mentally deficient to play this game. hi

So the saga continues. It misbehaves in the morning, and then acts differently
in the afternoon. It stays on 24/7. No rx problems, the image cals are done.
The tx cal is done. It is just Jekyl and Hydeing me to insanity. Of course
when it has been back to Austin, it seems to behave with no glitches. It waits
to return home to torment me. hi

I just want to be able to use my SDR as my main radio in peace.
