Hello Flexers

What you guys are seeing is the carrier that is only being suppressed by
about 50dB out of the SDR-1000 modulator. When operating CW and you key
up you will see the carrier which is offset by the tone that you select
for your personal preference. In my case it is 600 Hz. What this means
is that my key down signal is a 600 Hz shifted signal that I hear in a
close by receiver. When I key up and am still in the MOX "on" mode my
residual is 600 Hz offset and down about -50dBc. When operating SSB, the
noise out of the sound card( in my case the Firebox) modulates this
-50dBc signal and produces a noise modulated residual carrier that is
only -42dBc. This does not bother me too much since my usual fan noise
keeps the background up a bit anyway but on CW on the microwave bands,
the key up is pretty noticeable. I used to see this same sort of key up
condition with my IC-271A but "never" with my FT-847, FT-920 and
FT-1000. Check it out on a spectrum analyzer and you will see what I am
talking about. I do this with the low power unit, i.e. 1W which does not
do 1 watt.

Subject: [Flexradio] SSB question

This question may seem strange as I have been using my 100watt SDR1000
for about a year, but mainly on digital modes.

While checking aerlier today, I tried SSB and listened to the signal on
another rig, without speec and with the mike turned off, what appeared
to be hum was audible and
the s-meter on the second rig showed what seemed to be a carrier, The DC
block made np difference with enabled or not. This was not feedback as I
was using a headsset on the
second rig and the mike was turned off.

This SDR1000, the monitors and the Ediroll are fed from a UPS.
Image rejection has been checked and appears ok.

Using the SDR1000 to check the SSB transmission from the second rig, it
was perfect, no audible background noise at all.

Ideas please, as I would not like this possible problem to be affecting
my digital transmissions.

Regards to all
Ross
