"I personally have no desire to start either a fight or a flameware
about this. I would just prefer that any discussion on the subject
be salted with some realism, based on history and a candid
appraisal of the near- and medium-term prospects.

QSL That. I hate the way MS got started (I was working with PDP11 and CPM),
the way they competed for business and their slow bumbling development of all
their products. However they got here, their products are on nearly everyones'
desks and they are starting to work well enough. The Flex folks were smart
enough to invent only that which was not already invented and to spend the best
of their creative time on the future. I've been reading the Reflector for many
months and considering the preponderance of start-up questions, choosing
Windows to start with was by far the best platform. However #2, once Flex
becomes a player of the market share of Kenwood or Icom, I suspect a cross
platform/OS version of PowerSDR will be a wise next step.
