While I am no big fan of market domination, Microsoft is hardly 
unique here.  If you go to your run of the mill big box store, you 
will see that there tends only to be one kind of any particular type 
of commodity.  This is because the big box stores like to buy from a 
limited number of suppliers, and they also like to get the various 
cooperative marketing funds that come along with a "we feature 
exclusively brand X" kind of strategy.

Consider, for instance, your local fast food outlet (especially the 
independents).  Surely you have noticed that they tend to stock only 
Coke or Pepsi products, but not both.  That's because if they agree 
to serve only one kind, the bottling company will provide a lot of 
the equipment and materials for free.
