Sami had it right. It's the display that's responsible. "Sitting there" is
moving an awful lot of bits around that have nothing to do with
demodulation.

Performance tuning would include (1) matching the spectrum display to the
actual resolution of the window and (2) getting all those buttons out of
view when they're not being used.

I often run sdr-core -- essentially, PowerSDR without the console -- for 12
or 18 hours at a stretch on a 512MB full-up Linux machine, without seeing
any paging activity whatsoever.
