I have the Heil headset mike that I have used with the IC-706MkIIG. This has an 8-pin connector just below the control box (PTT + Up/Dn buttons), then an adapter cable with the RJ-45 connector on the end to fit the Icom. Do I understand that all I need to be able to use this with a FLEX-5000 is to replace the Icom cable by a Yaesu cable? I'm guessing that the PTT button will still work but not the Up/Dn buttons; is that correct?
