Peter,

You're right on the technical point.  We *could* set it up so that the
virtual COM ports are only available once you launch PowerSDR.  But why
would we want to limit the capabilities like that?

Personally, I'd rather have a general purpose application for configuring
virtual COM ports (thanks to N8VB we have that for no cost).  And I'd rather
have a flexible way to route audio data to various programs (we have this in
VAC albeit for a ~$40 charge).

Building them in would not necessarily simplify the setup (other than
obtaining the programs themselves).  In fact, it would make it more complex
for those that don't use these features.
