Subject: [Flexradio] Weekly update on the FLEX-5000 and PowerSDR
Date: Tue, 3 Jul 2007 18:13:16 -0500

Dear FlexRadio customers,

For the past 5 months, we have been hard at work enhancing PowerSDR to be
compatible with the FLEX-5000. Today marks another milestone in that path
of progress as we release PowerSDR Beta v1.9.1. This version includes all
of the enhancements we have been working on in the SVN SDR-X branch. A
large majority of our customers are already using the open SVN version but
we want to make it now generally available through website download.

Here are just a few of the major changes that benefit SDR-1000 owners as a
direct result of FLEX-5000 development:

- Full Duplex DSP - We now have completely separated the RX and TX audio
and control paths through the DSP. This immediately impacts T/R transition
times and thus dramatically improves CW performance on the SDR-1000. Huge
kudos to Bob McGwier, N4HY, and Frank Brickle, AB2KT, for their continued
improvements to the DSP.

- Improved Calibration - Due to work on calibration routines for the
FLEX-5000, we now have faster calibration and the ability to calibrate per
band.

- Enhanced Digital Mode Experience - Much work has been done to improve the
digital mode experience including work on the VAC interface, DRM Transmit,
and CAT interfacing to various third party programs (thanks to Bob Tracy,
K5KDN).

- Support of Janus/Ozy combination - Thanks to Bill Tracey, KD5TFD, we have initial support of the HPSDR Janus/Ozy sound card for use with the SDR-1000.

As we collect these 400+ updates from the SDR-X branch, we will be returning
active development to the trunk. This means that you may see errors
updating your SDR-X branch. You can use the SVN->Switch command with the
URL below to update your folders to pull the new files from the right place.
We will tag the last revision of the "old" trunk before replacing the trunk
with the existing SDR-X branch.

Binaries Only SVN URL:

As always, we would not be able to do this without the continued support of
our volunteer developers, testers, and good ideas from the Flexer community.
Keep up the excellent work. We are excited about the continued potential
for improvement in the truly SOFTware Defined Radio arena.

Food for thought: Do you know of other radios that received continued
feature and performance improvements after the radio is no longer produced?

FLEX-5000 production update:

The "first article" of the corrected back panel for the FLEX-5000 was
approved this week. The first article of corrected silk screening will be
reviewed on 7/6. We are still on track to begin shipments on or before 7/25
as stated in last week's report.

Our FLEX-5000 Beta testers are making lots of on air contacts with the new
radio. Also, John (W5GI), has been announcing on air time with on this
reflector so watch for times and frequencies.

73,
Gerald
