When I bought my SDR-1k 3 years ago it was almost unusable on CW. I had to rig
side tones and all that into my headphones to make the radio competitive in
pileups. I have watched the CW characteristics of the Flex radio continue to
improve to where it is now virtually flawless. The 5K has become every bit as
good as my Orion was. The Orion starts to break down as a QSK radio around 60
wpm and the 5K from my tests is in that range. It won't do 100 wpm QSK but
none of the present day radios will do that. I haven't tried to see how the
radio performs in full duplex at 100 wpm yet using different antenna. What I
would like to see is the ability to have the RX active all the time on one
antenna and the TX active all the time on another antenna with no relay
activity, and see how the radio performs.
