Hey guys,

These are exciting new times at Flex. There is nothing to fear. What is around
the corner is what we have all be waiting for. We have been looking at the same
old GUI for how many years now? (since inception?). My first contact with
Gerald about the Flex SDR1K was about 3 1/2 years ago. After a year of back and
forth with him (when they came out with the 100 watt amp) I took the plunge and
bought my SDR1K. Superficially, on the outside PowerSDR has pretty much looked
the same all these years but internally, so many changes have been made (
transparent to most of us) that they have made Flex Radio a serious contender
in the ham radio market (not to mention government) all over the world. The
Flex programmers have done amazing things with PSDR that nobody thought could
be done. The Flex programmers have squeezed just about every ounce of
performance that they can out of PSDR and have made the the SDR5K a world class
radio. Now it's time for the next generation of PSDR or HyperFlex or whatever
it is going to be called to go into development and make this little black box
even better. I beleive that as this next generation of software is rolled out
and as it evolves, people will see why the programmers have decided to do what
they are doing and why they have chosen this particular route. There are
advantages as to why they are doing it this way and I for one trust that they
will make my Flex 5K do things that most of us can't even imagine right now.
(Just look back to where we were 3 short years ago).

Nobody is going to have to go out and buy a whole new computer just to run the
new generation of software. You will most likely be able to run the new version
on what you are using right now. Besides, as Flexers, we are always in the
"learning mode" and we will adapt in very short order as to what we need to do
next to get the software up and running and to make our own conversions as
seamless as possible. What is around the corner is something to be embraced
and not feared. The Flex programmers are some of the most talented guys that I
have seen in a long time. These guys will be looked back upon as pioneers" of a
whole new industry.

Tim Ellison, gave us some great links for some ideas on how to get started.

Here is an alternative for those that are afraid of getting away from Microsoft:

Installing Ubuntu inside Windows XP using VirtualBox (No 2 computer
configuration needed)

Here, you can download "Virtualbox" and the manual to get your brain thinking
in another direction: http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

I am really looking forward to this new generation of software for my Flex 5K
(whatever it may be called). Have fun guys. We are only on this planet for a
short time :)
