Have you calibrated the radio lately with the Advanced PA calibration routine?
It does a better job of doing the PA gain adjustments than the regular PA
calibration. You can read about it in the FLEX-4000 Owner's Manual on page 98.
Even though it is in the F5K manual, this section is applicable to the SDR-1000

Subject: [Flexradio] AM Modulation level

I have been using my SDR 1000 on AM for over a year now. Recently I have
noticed that the modulation is quite a bit higher on some bands that others.
For instance on 75 meters the rig will do 95% negative and about 110% positive
modulation on my REA AM Station monitor. On 40 meters and some of the other
bands the rig will do 95% negative and 150% positive which results in a much
louder signal. Power levels on each were the same (10 watts carrier) when the
tests were performed. The disparity is also evident on my Bird 43P
peak-reading wattmeter which would read quite a bit higher PEP levels on 40
meters and some of the other bands compared to 80 meters.
Any ideas on what could be causing this? Has any one else experienced
this? All setup menu, mic gains, etc, are the same for all bands.
Frank, WA3JBT
