You're welcome George. I use an Audio-Technica AT-3035 condenser mic. into a
W2IHY 8 Band EQ directly into the Delta 44 input #3. I mute input #4 and
uncheck "stereo link" in the Monitor Mixer portion of the M Audio Delta Control
Panel. I use a footswitch into the back of the SDR to key the radio.

I do not use the EQ portion of the W2IHY box. I only use the mic. preamp
section. Any low noise mic. preamp providing the proper phantom voltage for a
condenser mic. will work. I do use the EQ software in PowerSDR. My PowerSDR EQ
settings for "conventional" audio are 0, 0, +3, -6, -3, +3, +12, +10, 0, 0. My
"conventional" transmit settings allow for 130 Hz-3,000 Hz transmissions. I
always receive "outstanding" audio reports.

In a quiet room, my background noise measures -15 dBm. I modulate the radio to
about 0 dBm (never over) by watching the TX Meter selected for "mic." My mic.
gain is set at 25. With my microphone disconnected, the "noise" measures -26
dB. That's lower than my background noise by at least 10 dB. I "could" turn up
the mic gain beyond normal operational levels, but, there's no practical reason
to do so under normal operating conditions. For DX, AM, and ESSB operation, I
change the PowerSDR EQ and transmit width settings. I set all of my PA settings
so that a 'front panel' drive setting of 50 is equivalent to about 35 watts,
which is enough to drive my Alpha 99 amplifier to 1,500 watts.

This scheme works very well to drive my amp to full output and I always get
excellent or better audio reports. The microphone you use and your voice
characteristics will cause deviations from this model, but this is the model
that works very well with the equipment I use. Hope this helps.

for the reply Brian! I THINK I have it figured out now. Reading back through
the archives it was suggested that putting the mouse arrow over the MOX button
allowed the space bar to be used for PTT. That actually works pretty well.
Though I've had the radio almost a year, I've been using it mainly for digital
modes. The SSB bug just bit a couple of weeks ago and it became a mission to
get the SDR-1000 on the air with good audio, which it didn't have before
running just a standard microphone. GeorgeN7BUI
