Dear Flexers,

FlexRadio is pleased to announce that RX2 boards began shipping to US
locations in volume today. EU shipments will commence once CE testing has
been completed. In conjunction with RX2 shipments, we are preparing the new
PowerSDR v1.12.0 Official Release to be ready for download by close of
business on Wednesday June 11th. The new v1.2 version of the FLEX-5000
firmware will be required in order to use the new version of PowerSDR. The
two will be available for download from the www.flex-radio.com home page on
Wednesday. An updated FLEX-5000 Operating Manual will be forthcoming soon.

PowerSDR v1.12.0 contains many improvements both "under the hood and on the
dashboard." Here are just a few along with attribution and thanks to our
open source volunteer contributors:

- RX2 Support
- DSP TX/RX buffer settings by mode (set once and forget)
- Dynamic resizing (K6JCA)
- Improved DX companding (TX compression)
- TX1/2/3 output sequencing
- CW keying improvements (W2RF)
- Peak metering with option to return to average values
- Front panel record/playback controls (K6JCA)
- Auto switch CW option (switches to CW mode automatically if paddle
input is sensed)
- Automated save and rename PowerSDR.mdb
- CAT improvements for RTTY offset enabling and frequency, inhibit TX
command for StepIR tuning, and remote temperature sensing (K5KDN)
- VFO B Scroll Tuning
- Improved oscilloscope display with variable time base

We recognize that RX2 software support will continue to evolve as we gain
feedback from our customers and integrate powerful new DSP capabilities made
possible by dual synchronous receivers. While such enhancements will be
initially made available for SVN download as usual, we expect to make
another Official Release on a shorter cycle than the normal twice yearly
period. While most customers are comfortable with using beta SVN software,
we want to make upgrades available sooner to those who are not.

On another note, the QST review of the FLEX-5000A will be in the July 2008
issue and is now available for download from our home page. The ARRL lab's
measurements confirm that the FLEX-5000 achieves 99 dB two tone, third order
dynamic range and +39 dBm IP3 at 2 kHz spacing! This is world class
performance. Worthy of note is that PowerSDR v1.12.0 already makes the
article out of date before the ink has dried on the magazine. Virtually
every comment made about the radio in the article has already been addressed
in the new release, including automatic buffer settings by mode and screen
resizing. This illustrates the power of the Open Source Software Defined
Radio paradigm. We want to assure you that "FlexRadios" will, "just keep
getting better and better and better."

73 and enjoy,

Gerald
