Does anyone know of this problem with the old type rigs, the ones with knobs?
Do any of those old rigs get stuck with the transmitter keyed ON, and the only
way to terminate the RF out would be to power down the A/C?

We are charting new waters here with this rig. When I was setting up the
station CW with the 5000a It got 'stuck' ON and the only solution was to turn
it off and reboot the computer. If I were operating remote I'd make sure the
station had an independent OFF timer.

Seems to me instead of a time out timer you want to make the network ping your
remote IP address or some watchdog program running on the remote computer and
if it doesn't acknowledge then shut down the xmit. There are power
distribution devices that can be switched over the internet with their own IP
address and can be remotely controlled This would give you an independent way
to shut things down apart from a BSOD You may want the tine out timer in
addition to the above and set it to ten minutes or something

an example http://www.remotepowerswitch.com/

I think this may open a whole separate specialized topic for PSDR that may be a
little beyond the scope of the native program

N8LP has a lot of stuff on remote control of a station that may be of interest
