I am also having severe noise problems. At home, my noise level in a rural environment runs about S3 to S5 on 40M in the evening. Using a vertical with a base mounted auto-tuner 100' from the shack. No problem hearing lots of cw dx. Usually 3 computers running on a wired home network, one of which is in the shack.
But at my temporary remote location in a large apartment complex (3rd floor apartment) in another city, my evening 40M noise level is from S7 to S9. One a good evening, I can hear maybe 2 or 3 cw signals on 40M. Two computers on a wired network in the apartment. No fluorescent bulbs. Tried both a screwdriver vertical and a tunable mag loop (both vertically and horizontally mounted) out on the balcony. Same results with either antenna. Tomorrow I'll try shutting down the home network and see if the noise level goes down. Not sure what to try after that.
