Why not putting in a white LED with a set of colorfilters....
My old military battery hand lamp (flashlight?) got it .....

That now makes the "sapphire" version (as opposed to the "ruby" red LED
version) of the FLEX-5000 a collector's item. Like the low serial number units
that Elecraft users are so fond of.

There could even possibly be an "emerald" and "topaz" versions of the FLEX-5000
in the future :-)

Lee,

Unfortunately, the Blue LED suddenly became a 16 week lead time, non stocked
item so we had to go with red or quit shipping units. Such is life as a
manufacturer. We hated the switch as well.

Gerald

Gentlemen:

Upon careful perusal of the posting of the W4DFU station I was horrified to
see that the blue light power switch was absent. For Shame! It was that
feature that stood us apart from the ham masses! There was universal
agreement to that! Gerald, what have you done?

I have suffered criticism for mounting the 4" classic National HRO knob on
the front panel of my Flex5000A. Something that I feel greatly enhances
the value of the radio! But to touch the blue light? Never!
