I have the same problem (on F5K and F3K) on a TouchSmart IQ500 from HP.
After a lot of test, disabling all devices disabled, I found the
problem which cause the drop
of latency, with stops or "motorboard" PowerSDR:
The videocard (NVIDIA serie 9000) and firewire share the same IRQ !!!
Solution ? Only two:
1 - disable the videocard's driver and use it with standards windows
driver (with low performance)
2 - put in the trash the new HP (1500,00 $)
Is incredible which HP uses this motherboard on one most expensive PC
of his collection !
There is not solution on BIOS or chipset upgrade.
