1. have had problems with running my SDR1000 for a couple of months and finally with Dudley's help, determined that the LPT1 port in my computer had died, slowly and not all at once. Added a LPT1 card and got things running again. Almost.
This time got laid low by a bad RF jumber cable (PL259 to PL259) from the SDR to the tuner! Fixed that and now have RF coming in and going out again. Now I find that when running 1.18.2, 1.18.3 and SVN3372, I keep running into an overloaded keyboard buffer issue which locks up the keyboard totally. Have to reboot the computer to get going again. Usually happens when I try to look at email with Outlook Express or the XYL wants to see what the kids are up to on Facebook (via Firefox). This morning the lockup happened again so I rebooted the computer but this time downloaded and installed PowerSDR1.12.1. Wow! CPU useage is way down from 40 to 50% with the newer versions to mid 20s even while I am typing this and listening to the Texas QSO party. Setup is: SDR-1000, 4 pin mic connector serviced last year at Flex, with 40 MHz OCXO. Edirol FA-66 soundcard. Mike is Radio Shack dynamic plugged into the FA66. Contour Shuttlepro with lots of functions including Mute and Tune. Rig connects to MFJ 995B antenna tuner, then thru Ameritron RCS-4 four port antenna switch to attic mounted Hamstick Clones for 80, 40, 20, and 10 meters. I was on 20 meters at the time of the incident. Computer: HP Pavilion 2.2 Ghz, WinXP Media, parallel port connection to SDR via PCI LPT card. I still haven't solved all of the computer problems, including recovering from a partial System Recovery. But I will be avoiding the later versions of PowerSDR until they approach multi-platform status. The load on this computer setup is just too heavy. 2. Re: all the above, went shopping for a conventional rig to use as a backup yesterday. Just got tired of trying to get a simple QSO going. Looked at the Yaesu FT-950 and was very impressed. Of note to PB developers, their presentation of Width, Shift, and Contour settings is very nice. Simple bar graph that changes number of bars or relative position based on user input/setting. Easy to follow with virtually no instruction time. Something to think about as the screen looks in PB (and I am still a fan, Beppe!) get pursued. 73 (and I will now enter the no-whine zone until the Vikings start to play today), Carl N9GC _______________________________________________ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List [email protected] http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/ Message delivered to [email protected]
