Subject: Re: [Flexradio] n1mm sdr glitches
Dudley,
Good suggestion and I've set it up and it looks like it will help. I'll
have to mess with the radio with the shortcut active and see how much it
helps.
Thanks!

Dan,
One other suggestion is to use a MS tool that keeps the focus on the
window that the cursor is setting on top of. In XP you need to download
Tweak UI or Power Tools, in Vista it is a Windows Option to enable.
Then maybe use dual screens, this seems to work pretty good.

The issue here is Human Error caused by "focus confusion". (i.e.
inadvertently changing the frequency).
There are currently 4 ways I know to fix this:
1. Reduce the functionality of pSDR by disabling the shortcut keys, I
think most people do this (obviously I'm not sure).
2. Log (n1mm) from a different computer using a different keyboard (I
find I get keyboard confusion, and if I use Senergy to share keyboard
between computers I'm back into the focus problem)
3. Run only pSDR on the "radio" computer (no logger, no digital
modes...etc.. only pSDR)
4. Do not make mistakes...but I definitely will never be able to even
attempt this one (I've tried the other 3).
An software modification that sounds easy (only the programmer knows)
would be to add an option to move all the shortcut keys so they are used
in conjunction with either a <Ctrl> or an <Alt> key (user selectable).
For example if the SDR shortcut were set to be <Ctrl><shortcut> then
keying in w1aw when thinking the focus is with the logging program but
really with pSDR would not cause a frequency change. This would only
help avoid human error while at the same time returning shortcut keys
into a useful status as opposed to the hindrance they are today.
I'm wondering if many use the shortcut keys. I really liked them and
used them, but they hurt! As the saying goes "if it hurts, quit doing
it". Personally, I would like to see the shortcut turned off by default.

This is not really a glitch. It is the way that N1MM is designed, & it
is
working as intended.
N1MM is designed to grab the focus any time that the frequency of
either VFO
changes of if the operating mode (CW, SB, etc.) of the radio changes.
Any
action in any other application (including PowerSDR) that does not
change
the VFO frequency or the operating mode will leave the focus with that
application.
N1MM cannot act in any other way. N1MM continuously polls the radio
via CAT
to determine the VFO frequency & mode. It does not care what the other
settings of the radio are & therefore does not poll for them. (This
applies
to any radio, not just PowerSDR.) Therefore, it has no way of knowing
when
to grab the focus back because the user changed a filter setting, the
AF
volume, etc.
