That is just the small company way.
I ordered a K3 before they came out, and cancelled the order after 6 months,
and I think only now, (years) after its out are most of the advertized
features working.
You cant base your expectations on what the web pages say, they seem to not
get updated real time.
Small companies have to work slowly, there are not that many people!
I think the next version of power sdr will be a while, and the auto notch
wont work on AM, the agc problem might still be there, the scope wont show
real AM, the monitor wont work on AM, but we will get new skins...
Eventually, things will come along.
With small companies, even products that have been out for a while sometimes
come to a halt when some part is discontinued and a work around has to be
made.
The Elecraft k2 was backordered a while when some chip went surface mount
and they had to make a board with the chip on it as a sub.
Big companies may be able to buy large quantities of parts, or have a
contract that says the part WILL be available on time for x amounts, or
ELSE...
I don't think small companies have that kind of pull...
One thing that bugs me about flex is the web page does not have much info on
it, like just what are the improvements coming up for psdr,, what about some
screen shots!,what are the specs on the 1500 (they must have a prototype to
test), no mention of the actual production delay, etc.
Elecraft was the same way, working people up into a frenzy with new
products, but delays and little info or updates on the web page. Still its
likely better they build radios and software rather than spend all their
time redoing the web page....
I am one of those people who have to order something that is in stock,
otherwise I just go nuts about it.
I have been thinking about getting the 1500 as well, for listening in the
den, but wont think about ordering one till they have piles of them at flex
to ship.

Subject: [Flexradio] A little perplexed...
I ordered the 1500 a couple months ago. At the time, they told me it
would ship in early December. I figured it could be my Christmas gift
from my wife. She was fine with that.
I emailed Flex to check on the shipment status. First of all, it took
them approximately 5 days to respond. However, that was likely due to
Thanksgiving... assuming they did not work from last Wednesday morning
through the weekend. Secondly, I received an email from a lady (name
withheld, replaced with *******) this morning.
HERE IS MY EMAIL TO HER:
Hi *****,
I just wanted to check on the Flex 1500 and see what the ETA is on
shipping? I am looking forward to receiving mine.
Thanks,
Randy Malick, KF0X

HERE IS HER SHORT RESPONSE:
Randall,
We are still planning on shipping this mid-March.

Well, that is totally unacceptable. Particularly when they told me it
would ship in December. IT STILL SAYS ON THE FLEX SITE THAT DECEMBER
IS THE TARGET SHIPPING MONTH.
I emailed her a second time early this morning and asked why it says
December on the site and she it trying to tell me it is mid-March.
Once again, they have been slow to respond and I have heard nothing
back from them.
I really want this radio and know the excellent reputation of Flex.
However, their slow response rate and clearly misleading shipping time
frame makes me want to cancel the order. What she is saying and what
I was told (and their site says) is over a 33% difference. Their
famous "customer service" is not starting off well with me. Had they
told me it would be March, I may have ordered it anyway. But, I don't
like being mislead.
I just subscribed to this reflector because I figured my radio would
be here in the next couple of weeks. Have any of you gotten burned
like this and had a very slow response time with Flex?
Randy
