Dave, you might want to try Firefox instead of IE8.
It's at Mozilla.com.
I especially like the Add-ons of:
NoScript (selectively blocks Java scripts on web sites)
Flashblock (stops Flash ads)
Web Of Trust (warns you about dangerous sites)
Google Surf Canyon (helps with Google searching)
