My 5000 is doing the same thing, since the upgrade to the new Firewire driver. Prior to the upgrade, Power SDR would occasionally freeze with a burst of disk activity. For example, every time my anti-virus program started, Power SDR would freeze. Now, instead of freezing, the receive audio gets raspy. The fix is to stop Power SDR and restart it.
The freezing problem has existed for the two years I've had the 5000. I've upgraded firmware, software, drivers, etc and the problem has always been there. Now it's replaced by the raspy audio.
