When I made a contact two days ago, my audio was described as "science-fiction
sounding", "just plain bizarre", "like nothing I've heard before". I turned
off the linear amplifier but the problem persisted.

>From my own testing (Flex only), into a dummy load, I would describe it as:
>very "tinny", raspy, slightly "phased", some echo.

It is essentially the same using either a Heil Pro-Set Plus (both elements) or
an ElectroVoice RE-20 (external mic pre-amp) feeding the balanced input to the
Flex. Same on all bands and same with USB or LSB. Same on dummy load and on
antenna. Two-Tone Test sounds ok, for the short duration (2-3 seconds) testing
was performed.

I tried a database reset (erased and restarted PSDR).

Flex 5000C
PwrSDR 1.18.3
Firmware 1.3.0.8
Firewire Driver 3.5.0.7171

Front Console: Transmit Profile = Default, Mic Gain = 10 (but have tried down
to 1), The following are NOT activated; DX, CPDR, VOX, GATE, RXEQ, TXEQ, VAC.

SETUP FORM: Audio Tab - Buffer Size 2048, Sample Rate 96000, Mic Boost not ON
DSP Tab - Buffer Size: Phone - RX: 4096, TX: 2048
Transmit Tab - Profile = Default, Transmit Filter = High: 3100 Low: 200.

My last contact prior to having this problem was several weeks ago (I travel
for business). This problem was described by my first completed contact two
days ago (I had attempted to make other contacts but was not successful).

This is a new station. I just completed it the first week of January. I have
been listening on the Flex for several months with and eves mounted wire loop.
My new antenna is a SteppIR MK-III Vertical, with one-hundred ground radials.

Any suggestions for further testing, or a solution is even better.

Lyndon (Lynn) Willoughby, AE5LK
