I was on the Flex net today using the FLEX-1500. I used my external audio
gear and my Acom AMP. I was pushing about 7 watts to the amp for 200 watts
output to my Mystery Antenna at 25 ft. Despite the contest (QRM/QRN) band
conditions, I received very complimentary reports.
Then 1500 is appropriately labeled. Performance wise it is between the
SDR-1000 and the FLEX-3000.
My system consist of a laptop core duo Dell Latitude 430 ( which I got
refurbished for $350) The USB connection worked seemlessly. Overall the rig
receives well and sounds great in both receive and transmit. The
transmitter has a strong christmas tree pattern- the audio is stout and
perfect for QRP operations. For the QRP purist the 1500 has no equal in its
price class. For those who just like to play or who want to experience
software define radio the FLEX 1500 is the way to go. There are some
outstanding software issues but Flex is hard at work on fixing them.
Now that I'm retired, I get to play all day.
