Of course Dave is correct.
As I said, I was limited to the pTT com port choices available in the
contest program, and to make it uniform through my system so I didn't have
to change port assignments as I switched programs, I chose a number that was
possible with all programs.
So no matter what mode, or what program, ptt is always com 8.
easier for an old guy to remember

Oh Howard
I forgot to tell you.
When you create a virtual com port pair.
I suggest that you choose one 'low' number and one 'high' number.
Most of the legacy software, logging, contest, MMTTY etc.
don't provide for
high numbers.
If you look in their dropdown lists, they rarely go very high, a holdover
from the old hard wired com port days.
So for older software, I suggest using a low number.
PSDR and most modern software will let you use high number.
Hence my use of 8 for ptt in all my progrms and 22 for ptt control in
PSDR.
One of the big contest programs only allows a number up to 8 which is why
I
chose that combo.
