Jason,

I suspect this is related to a very common and well known marketing
phenomenon. If customers don't like a product or service they will say
negative things much more frequently than happy customers will say happy
things.

That's why so many companies devote a lot of time and money to complaint
handling and service recovery. Let's say you call Oakley and rant and rave
about how your sunglasses broke a day after you bought them and the local
dealer told you to kiss off, yada, yada, yada. Oakley customer service will
try very hard to make you a happy camper. Are they doing that just for
you? Not really. They are doing it so you won't go tell all your family
and friends that Oakley sucks.

Amazon has elevated this to an art form.

Another reason behind the relative quiet is that unhappy people are focused
on something they want fixed. Happy people just move along to the next item
of business. Those of us who are "into" the SDR thing talk and talk and
talk among ourselves but not all Flex buyers are really devoted to the
future of SDR. They just want a radio that works. When it doesn't work,
they complain--and well they should. But when it does work they just think,
"Should have been this way all the time" and turn their attention elsewhere.

My position is that people who are really pleased with 2.0.19 and their
various Flex boxes go to *other* sites and offer compliments. How many of
you folks who are happy, happy with your radios share that happiness in the
eHam reviews or the eHam SDR forums?

There are some extremely dedicated Flex-bashers on the SDR forum. I I
haven't a clue why they are motivated to be so acidly critical. There are a
few people there who try to rebut their attacks but this only spurs the
naysayers to be even more critical.

So, why not join the forum and say the good things that you know about the
Flexes and about the new PSDR? And for goodness sake, don't argue with the
trolls, you'll just be giving them ammunition to fire back at you. Just
behave as though they didn't exist.

Be prepared, though, because no matter how reserved, rational and fact-based
your comments, you'll immediately be dubbed a Flex fanboi. Just ignore
that.

And those of you who aren't so happy, you post, too. But don't spew
venom. Instead, say what you like, what you don't like, and why.
Constructive criticism is always a good thing. Trolling and flamebaiting
are not. There is a lot of that going on over on eHam and it has to be
influencing at least a few people not to buy from Flex. In the end, that
will hurt all of us.
