There has been a good discussion on LCD monitors and its really easy to get
a good one. They are all good at these prices!

One gotcha you need to know about:
When you buy a new monitor, more than likely the system is going to
configure it as 1900x1080 resolution. This is the normal "maximum" for
resolution (although you can get monitors and video cards that support
higher). When you look at the desktop on a 1900 x 1080 screen, the first
thing you will notice is that text is very very very very small. This is an
artifact of showing such a large desktop on your moniror (1900x1080). Many
people like the desktop landscape, just wish the text was bigger, so they go
to the DIsplay control panel and set the text to medium or large.

Now, the desktop looks just fine! As you marvel over the beauty in front of
you, you crank up powerSDR for an afternoon of radio fun. What? The screen
looks bizarre! I see two or four start buttons, the frequncy display has
numbers not in their boxes, it might remind you of bizarre outings you made
while in college (sri, maybe that was just me!)

In other words, boosting the Text Size in the Display control panel screws
the PowerSDR display up royally.

So, you are torn between teeny tiny text in Wihdows or PowerSDR on acid.

The solution is (at least as I see it) is to reset the text size in the
Display Control Panel to Small (the recommended value) and then lower the
resolution of the desktop. If the text is very small at 1900x1080, try
1600x900. Notice the text is bigger? You can drop it even more if you need
the text larger.

That sounds great in theory, but not all monitors play nice: I have a Samsung SyncMaster 2233, and if it receives a signal *other than* 1920x1080 the screen blanks after 20sec.
