Jeff,
I have a PR781 into the balanced input in back, and a Heil MB-1/ HC6 headset
boom mic in the front (unbalanced) jack. The front jack has more gain than
the rear jack, so I adjust the two inputs in the Mixer control: Rear
balanced jack is at full gain, and front unbalanced jack is several
'notches' down. You'll see a great tutorial in the Flex Wiki on how to go
through the audio chain, one step at a time, to make sure that that no
single step is overdriven and clipping.
Note that the "Mic Boost" in the audio tab only boosts the front jack, not
the rear balanced jack. Since the front jack is already 'louder' than the
rear for my mics, I keep mic boost off.
Hope that wasn't too much for your head to absorb while waiting for your new
Flex.

Subject: [Flexradio] Balanced or unbalanced mic input
Greetings. Eagerly awaiting the arrival of my new Flex 5k. Purchased a
Heil PR 781 mic and xlr yaesu cable at Dayton. I'll run it that way for
awhile but I'm wondering if anyone has had success using this mic with an
xlr-trs cable to the balanced input on the back? I know the front panel
has more gain due to the mic preamp from reading the instruction. I don't
plan to use any outboard gear so I wonder if the mic has enough gain to go
straight into the balanced input on its own. Just curious if there are any
advantages to doing this or not. Right now it's a non-issue but may be
something I'd be interested in doing in the future if there's any benefit.
Thanks.
Jeff
