Hi Gang:
I want to inform those people that have the V/U unit to be careful of the output power from the flex as it WILL SPIKE HIGH into your amp. Today the amp GU78b that I was running only at 1000 Watts spiked again and blew something in the antenna and also causer the HV power supply to go down, I have not checked out what died today but I had thought 1000 watts would at least be stable with only 10 watts drive from the Flex5000A. I had this problem before and had to replace two coax connectors "N" type and several diodes and do a mod cost some dollars to get back on the air I have a power meter next to the Flex never saw the power spike but the amp did and probably put out 3 to 4 KW to the antenna system. My question to Flex is when are they going to address the software problems for the V/U unit lets face it the V/U has been out for a year and it has never been upgraded to work the way it should. I realize the HF people all want special features for there Flex rigs but those that spent a lot of dollars for the V/U mod have a unit that has LITTLE features (unless you just use the output of the Flex to a antenna) Now if you are using a amp that has a max power output of 2 KW you will never have that problem as a 8877 takes all the power the flex has to drive to 2 KW But if you need less than max power from the Flex BEWARE it will get your amp. I have tried to put the XV-144 back on line but the Flex5000A will not work with the XV144. I did have it running as a system before the mod.
Any ideas when the expensive V/U will do something stable???
