Check with Acom but I don't think a buffer is required. You should be able
to connect the keying output of the 5000 directly to the "Key In" jack on
the back of the Acom 1000.

You can check to make sure it won't hurt the 5000 by using a multimeter.
First put the multimeter into voltage mode and measure the voltage from the
center of "Key In" to ground. As long as it is less than 50V it will be safe
for the 5000 to key.

Next switch the multimeter to read amps. Again connect from center contact
of the Acom 1000 "Key In" to ground. The amp will key and will show you the
current needed to key the amp. If the keying current is 400mA or less, it is
safe to key with the 5000.

Remember: +50VDC max on the "Key In" jack, 400mA max on the "Key In" jack.
