I believe it is very important. I do not want Windows sounds being forced into a VAC cable that I am using for digital modes.

Yeah, this becomes a problem with sound cads that when they are not plugged into anything, they are not active and Windows will randomly chose a sound device to become the default.

Here is what I did for a PC that did not have a sound card and made a VAC cable the default. I created a "burn" VAC cable (cable 3). One that I would never use for PowerSDR and made it the default sound and communication device. Then I made sure I disable Windows sounds. That way the VAC cables I use for PowerSDR (1 and 2)are never the default device which is VAC cable 3

Tim, The new (or recently modified) sample rate article in the Knowledge Base
is excellent. Thanks. You say below to make sure VAC cables are not a default
Windows sound device. I bet you're speaking specifically of the VAC cables in
the Playback tab. In my case, the VAC cables in the Recording tab are the only
active recording devices, so one of them is set as the default by Windows. Can
you elaborate on this? How radical do I have to get to make sure that a VAC
recording cable is not set as the default by Windows?Jim KJ2P

Try utilizing the AGC-T for the best SNR which will make reception of
weak signals better.

Use use the VAC gain rather than the AF gain control in the KB references.

Also with Win7, make sure the VAC cables are not a default Windows sound
device

The default sampling rate of the Win7 VAC cable sound devices are 48K

Speaking of audio levels, was anything changed on the VAC side of things?
Since installing 2.1.5, the receive interaction between PowerSDR / VAC /
HRD-DM780 is not as resilient. Copy on the DM780 in PSK mode for example is
not as robust in challenging conditions. This is a gut feel and wonder if
anyone else has the same observation?

I have tried varying the levels and not got to a point. VAC version is
4.09 and HRD is the HRD 5.0 beta latest build. Sampling rate is 48000. OS
is Win7/SP1. Is there something that one might want to tweak? TX audio is
getting good reports.

Thanks in advance.

The audio levels were re-scaled and normalized in PowerSDR v2.1.5 which
could account for the difference.

Has any one noticed that in V2.1.5 , the Panascope display and the Scope
display show about half the
amplitude as version 2.0 ? If you bring AGC-T way high you can get about the
same vertical amplitude as V2.0 .
