Geez I get so sick of hearing the same tired old complaint about the Flex radios not coming with a mic! Of the dozen or so radios I've owned over the years I don't think I've ever once had an occasion where I used the supplied hand mic. I have always left them in the packing plastic and thrown them back in the box to save for when I re sold the radio and the prospective buyer inevitably asked " do you have the hand mic?" I've always either bought a desk mic or, in recent years, re wired my trusty Heil HC-5 element equipped D-104. Even the QST reviewer commented on the lack of a mic. Who cares??? Vent over.....

Burt, I think your post reflects a misunderstanding shared by a lot of
hams, both SDR users and knob crankers.

A good SDR requires a good computer. Period. End of story.

A great many people think, "Oh, I have a computer and it works just fine
for my email and for MS Office so if I get an SDR I'll be all set."

Others think, "My 50+ year old Tube-O-Tron amp works just fine so why won't
my five year old CompuMatic work with my Flex?"

Not so fast, Jethro. As I ponder some of the computers described on this
reflector, I wonder that they will run PSDR at all.

One can hardly expect Flex's marketing department to yell at people that
their Pentium I machines with 512MB of RAM aren't going to haul the
freight. They publish minimum requirements but they can't make people
respect them.

I wish that FRS would say right up front, "When it comes to computers, go
big or stay home," because the 900 pound gorilla in the room is the need to
obtain a fast contemporary computer if one expects optimum performance from
PSDR. Sure that runs the acquisition cost up but to obtain a knob radio
that performs as well, you'll pay as much or more for technology that is
rapidly becoming obsolescent.

As my Uncle Harrison used to say, "That's the price of poker, gentlemen."

BTW, Burt, I'll spot you the external keyer but did you really expect to
run your 1500 without a computer, a power supply, a speaker, or a mic?
